Empire United u17 captain Jeorgio Kocevski had the opportunity to play with Crew SC Academy at the u17 Generation Adidas Cup in Dallas, TX this past April for the "finals week".
The Generation Adidas Cup is one of the premier competitive youth soccer tournaments in North America. This year marks the 12th edition of the event which has encompassed u17, u15 and u12 age groups. MLS u15 and u17 teams competed regionally prior to the “finals week” which lead up to Easter this past April. In addition to MLS Academy Clubs, Professional Academy Teams from Liga MX and Europe compete in the finals week of the GA Cup.
Crew SC finished outside of the top two during the regional qualification and were placed in Group C of the Premier Division. Their group games consisted of cross-over matches against every team from Group D:
Crew SC 4-1 Colorado Rapids
Crew SC 1-0 NE Revolution
Crew SC 2-0 Toluca (Mexico)
Crew SC 6-0 Mt Pleasant (Jamaica)
Crew SC 2-0 Philadelphia Union
Crew SC won Group C [comprised of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, CF Monterry (Mexico), Sporting KC, and UMF Fjolnir (Iceland)] with a perfect 5-0 record as well as having superior Goal Difference and Goals For. First place in the group qualified them for the Semi-Finals of the Premier Division. Crew SC lost the Semis 0-1 to runner up Midtjylland (Denmark), with Club Tijuana of Mexico taking the Championship.
Kocevski played in 6 of the 7 matches for Crew SC, starting 3 of those matches. He contributed 2 assists as well as a very important performance as a CB vs MT Pleasant where Crew SC needed a 6-0 victory to stay top of the group on Points and Goal Difference.
This is another great opportunity for an Empire United Boys DA player and again displayed the relationship between Empire United and Crew SC Academy of the MLS. Some past opportunities include:
