Pre-Development Academy Finishes 2018-19 Season

PDA finishes 2018-2019 Programming with Training Day and Friendlies

Pre-Development Academy Finishes 2018-19 Season

The Boys Pre-Development Academy (PDA) finished its 2018-19 programming this past weekend playing friendlies vs Internationals Development Academy of Cleveland, OH.  These friendlies were the culminating event following last weekend’s final session of Phase 3 – our PDA Training Day.

Phase 3 Training Day

The Training Day session encompassed approximately 80 players from 2009-2005 birth years.  These are part of the PDA curriculum and are carried out by our DA staff with additional help from the DA u17 & u19 players as assistant coaches.  This was the third “Training Day” and is a great event that not only helps with each players’ development but also shows the link from Empire à Empire PDA à Empire DA teams.  The PDA players were again able to watch a 30-minute demo session from the u17 & u19 players between the two [double-birth year] sessions.

Internationals Friendlies

This past Saturday, March 9th Empire United PDA and DA teams played US Soccer DA Member club Internationals in friendly matches.  Internationals is a DA club with full-time teams from u12-u19.

The results were as follows:

Empire 2008 PDA 2-3 Internationals u12

Empire 2007 PDA 4-3 Internationals u12

Empire 2006 PDA 3-4 Internationals u13

Empire 2005 PDA 5-1 Internationals u14

Empire DA u15 2-0 Internationals u15

Empire DA u17 3-3 Internationals u17

Empire DA u19 0-2 Internationals u19 [Rained out at 70min]

Spring 2019

As a reminder the PDA programming shuts down from March-June.  As the weather changes in March and teams can move to spaces outside there is a natural increase in club's competitive programming.  As a professional staff, we feel that an extra day per week is too much physically for young players, and can lead to burnout or injury through fatigue.  There is also the risk to negatively effecting physical growth development if a player doesn't have the appropriate rest periods weekly.

The Boys DA will still look to maintain contact with the players during this busy season by watching training session and attending matches as available.  The staff will also run Empire Training Centers (ETCs) for the boys a couple of times through the spring.   These sessions will be one-off training sessions allowing the staff to maintain contact and see how the boys are developing. At the ETC sessions, we will also provide Elite Parent Development to help you understand the development process and our processes at Empire United with the Boys DA.
