7-8th Grade Program

We are thrilled to introduce our winter/spring Empire United Field Hockey Club programming and wanted to offer more information to parents/athletes!


*Due to COVID concerns this year, we are offering TWO shorter programs to our athletes. The intent is to be more adaptable should a second wave hit our area, and force us to close down our operations. Each program is different and offers a different curriculum to provide more skill development and game play opportunities to our athletes.


Empire United Winter Program:

January through March – we will offer sessions twice weekly. One weekly session will focus solely on skill development. Athletes will run through skills stations designed by our college coaching staff that will vary each week and target all of the basic and advanced skills necessary to compete at the high school and collegiate levels. The second weekly session will feature game play, and will provide a competitive setting in order to try out new skills under pressure and provide the game play that all athletes want to enjoy and experience. This format is skill-based and not ‘team-based’. Game play will be organized in a league format. Skills sessions will be organized in stations manned by our collegiate coaching staff.


Our 7-8th grade program will run only January through March. We will offer session once weekly. Practices will be a combination of basic and advanced skill development as well as game play.


Empire United Spring Program:

April through June – we will still offer sessions twice weekly, but will organize our athletes into competitive travel teams that will compete locally (possibly regionally if it is safe to do so), and will provide athletes with a ‘team’ to train and compete with in as many games, scrimmages and tournaments available to us. We anticipate the opportunity to host games and tournaments at our own Empire facilities, and will also consider (with our families’ input) outside opportunities provided it is safe and permissible by our local and state safety standards.


Please note that the cost of both programs covers all practices only and does not include any tournaments or scrimmages with outside organizations at this point due to COVID. If it is safe to do so we will add opportunities for competitions and tournaments, but that would be an individual choice to participate and at their expense. The ‘fixed costs’ for our programs will include our twice weekly practices, and if we are able to schedule outside competition, those competition/tournament costs will be an additional cost absorbed only by those athletes who will compete in those competitions/tournaments. The tentative cost for each session is $650 per player for our 9-12th grade programs. The tentative cost for the 7-8th grade winter program is $375 per player.
