Empire United Rochester Sends Two Teams to Region I Championship Game

Rochester Boys U13 and Girls U13 play in Championship Game; Empire United sends five teams to Region I Championships, most in New York West


Empire United sent five teams to West Virginia to compete in the Region I Championships, and two teams from Empire United Rochester advanced to the Championship game.  After winning their groups, the Empire United Rochester U13 Boys and U13 Girls both won their semifinal match before falling in the Region I Championship game on Tuesday, June 30th.

The Rochester U13 Boys, coached by Louis Guilfoil and Gianni Bussani, won their group with a convincing 3-0 record, outscoring their opponents 9-2 overall.  On Monday, June 29th, they defeated Massachusetts State Champion Valeo FC, 3-2, in overtime after falling behind 2-0 at the half.  In the Championship game on Tuesday, June 30th, they fell to Region I Champion Baltimore Celtic Darby, 3-0.  Ryan Leask (4 goals) and AJ Ali (3 goals) were among the top scorers at the Region I Championships.

The Rochester U13 Girls, coached by Mike Ellicott and Bri Tata, won their group with a 2-0-1 record, while outscoring their group opponents 17-4 overall.  In the Regional semi-final, the girls defeated Penn West State Champion Victory Express by a convincing score of 5-0.  In the Championship game also played on Tuesday, June 30th, they fell in a closely contested match to Region I Champion FC Frederick (Maryland), 2-1.  Danielle Hartman (5 goals), Emily Parker (5 goals) and Grace Allen (3 goals) were among the top scorers at the Region I Championships.
